Very very good, in-depth article posted today at Sea of Blue about whether the KHSAA's ruling on Euton and Jackson was justified or not. They really go after the facts in this article, bringing to light what guidelines were used in determining that they were both indeed ineligible. check it out here. Interesting stuff.
Unbelieveable. Un-freaking-believable. As reported earlier, Scott County High School received two letters from the KHSAA offices on Tuesday regarding the eligibility of two transfers from Rose Hill.
One letter stated that transfer Dakotah Euton was ruled ineligible. The other stated that his Rose Hill teammate and best friend, Chad Jackson, would be eligible to play next season. This has caused a lot of anger and confusion across the bluegrass. Now it just got worse.
Probably realizing that they couldn't make one guy eligible and the other not without any real clear reason why, the KHSAA called Scott County HS athletic office on wednesday and informed them that Chad Jackson was also ineligible. Their excuse for the letter on tuesday saying the opposite? Apparently it was a "clerical error." Riiiiight. And gullable is written on the ceiling.
This is absolutely ridiculous. These guys may be high profile athletes, but they are still just kids that should get the chance to play the sport they love while they still can. They do not deserve to be held down by some political B.S. with no apparent rhyme or reason just so the KHSAA can flex some muscle.
Both Euton's and Jackson's parents have said they plan to appeal the rulings. I really hope that these kids' parents and the Scott County community do take action because this has got to stop before our state high school athletics program gets turned into a laughing stock. The commissioner of the KHSAA is Brigid DeVries......firebrigid.com???
Here's the deal: After playing his first two seasons of high school ball at Rose Hill, Dakotah Euton transferred to Scott County because of his father's job change. Along with him came best friend and fellow Rose Hill basketball player Chad Jackson. For some reason, the KHSAA decided to clear Jackson to play next season, but not Euton. I'm not an expert on these situations and don't pretend to be, so for the rest of the story I'll refer you to Chris Diggs' UK blog at the courier-journal.com.
Check out this article from the IndyStar website, detailing the KY boys' 95-78 victory, complete with boxscore at the bottom of the page.
Looks like Tyler Brown (pictured above) of Owensboro Apollo was the X-factor in the game, scoring 16 of his 19 points in the first half boosting KY to an early lead that they rode all the way to the finish.
Earlier tonight the Kentucky High School All-Star team erased an eight game losing streak against the Indiana All-Stars in an impressive 95-78 victory at the Louisville Gardens. This was the second match-up of the annual double header between the neighboring states, the first game played on this past Friday in Indianapolis ending in a heartbreaking 83-82 defeat of the Kentucky squad.
Sunday was a different story, however, as Kentucky's Shelvin Mack and Darius Miller stole the show and led their squad to a relatively easy victory in the Gardens. The official stats have not been released yet, as soon as they are we will post an update.
Friday's game saw a very heated match in which the KY squad's 29 turnovers ultimately sealed their defeat. Tyler Zeller, a UNC commit, led Indiana with 22 points. Shelvin Mack (Lex. Bryan Station/Butler University) of KY led all scorers with 24, Scotty Hopson (Univ. Heights HS/Tennesse) had 14 pts, 5 rebs, and 6 TO's, and Darius Miller (Mason Co./UK) had 11 pts, 4 rebs, and 5 TO's.
This will be an area for reporting scores and stats once the high school season gets going again. Around October when the teams start official practices we will do a little pre-season preview but until then this blog will be pretty stagnant. If anything of relevance comes up and is posted here, it will be linked on the home page.
If anyone has suggestions or ideas, please leave us a message in the Feedback Forum and we'll get back to you ASAP.
IF ANYONE IS INTERESTED IN DOING VOLUNTEER REPORTING FOR US ON THIS BLOG SPECIFICALLY, PLEASE SEND US A MESSAGE THROUGH THE FORUM AS WELL. THE JOB WOULD BE TO SIMPLY REPORT TO US THE SCORES, STATS, AND ANY RELATIVE NOTES AND/OR STORIES FROM THE GAMES IN YOUR DESIGNATED REGION. YOUR INFO WOULD BE RECOGNIZED AND CREDITED AS YOURS ON THE SITE.
