The Courier-Journal reports today that officials from J'Town, Manual, and Seneca high schools in Louisville confirmed to have reported violations by their coaches to the KHSAA.

Apparently the violations come from the coaches attending the Kentucky HoopFest this summer during the KHSAA "dead period" when coaches are prohibited from watching/interacting with athletes.

J'Town's Jeff Morrow, Seneca's Steve Seargent (both head coaches), and Manual assistant John Cole are involved. Both Seneca and Manual AD's said they would recommend two-game suspensions of their coaches.

Jeff Morrow served a 4-game suspension last year for violating KHSAA recruiting by-laws, and the J'Town officials would not say what suspension he would serve for this season's violations. Morrow was a former UK student manager (like myself!!) under Rick Pitino and he led the J'Town Chargers to the State Title in 2006.

The KHSAA has the power to add on, subtract from, or keep the recommendations given by the schools. Commissioner Brigid DeVries is in the process of reviewing those recommendations.

Seneca's Coach Sergeant said he was at the Hoops basketball facility on July 9 to oversee Seneca students who were working at the scorer's table for the HoopFest event.

"I thought the dead period ended (July 8) instead of (July 9)," he said. "I didn't even realize I was committing a violation. … I'll take the punishment and move on."

Unbelieveable. Un-freaking-believable. As reported earlier, Scott County High School received two letters from the KHSAA offices on Tuesday regarding the eligibility of two transfers from Rose Hill.

One letter stated that transfer Dakotah Euton was ruled ineligible. The other stated that his Rose Hill teammate and best friend, Chad Jackson, would be eligible to play next season. This has caused a lot of anger and confusion across the bluegrass. Now it just got worse.

Probably realizing that they couldn't make one guy eligible and the other not without any real clear reason why, the KHSAA called Scott County HS athletic office on wednesday and informed them that Chad Jackson was also ineligible. Their excuse for the letter on tuesday saying the opposite? Apparently it was a "clerical error." Riiiiight. And gullable is written on the ceiling.

This is absolutely ridiculous. These guys may be high profile athletes, but they are still just kids that should get the chance to play the sport they love while they still can. They do not deserve to be held down by some political B.S. with no apparent rhyme or reason just so the KHSAA can flex some muscle.

Both Euton's and Jackson's parents have said they plan to appeal the rulings. I really hope that these kids' parents and the Scott County community do take action because this has got to stop before our state high school athletics program gets turned into a laughing stock. The commissioner of the KHSAA is Brigid DeVries......firebrigid.com???
